Technology and the Internet offer me an opportunity to share stories about my years in Atlanta, mostly my 21 years in city government. I was privileged to work in the administrations of Mayors Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young and to work side by side with countless civic, community and political leaders over the years.

My experience spans five mayors and four governors from my first appointment as a member of Mayor Jackson’s Arts Committee to leading the transition team between the Jackson and Young administrations to serving as Atlanta’s first woman mayor beginning in 2002.

My professional ties are grounded in the Atlanta tradition of doing the nearly impossible, community consensus building, collaboration and high expectations. The rich cultural diversity of Atlanta dates back to its earliest days as a railroad town. That history inspires many city dwellers today to think big and to value diversity.
